Fashola’s convoy intercepts robbery gang

The convoy of Gov. Babatunde Fashola of Lagos State, on Monday night intercepted a suspected three-man armed robbery gang on the Obalende fly-over of the city, the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) has reported.
According to the Chief Security Officer (CSO) to the governor, Mr Adesina Lawal, the incident occurred between 9 and 10 pm, when the governor was returning to Government House, Marina.
Lawal in a briefing to the Commissioner of Police, Mr Umar Manko, said three suspects, who were on a motorcycle, were riding against traffic. The suspects abandoned the motorcycle and took to their heals on sighting the convoy.
“The police vehicle in the front flashed the riders. When they discovered it was a police vehicle, they jumped down and ran away. The police escort did not want to leave the governor and pursue the suspects.
“The governor ordered that the unregistered motorcycle be searched. When we checked, we discovered one shot gun, a feeding bottle, a baby shoe, pampers and a wrist watch inside a bag.
“The governor requested that the items must be submitted to the police for further investigation, “ Lawal said.
The state Commissioner for Information, Mr Lateef Ibirogba, who was also present, said that the state government was committed to fighting crimes.
Receiving the items, Manko commended the governor for his leadership, which he said had helped to foil the plans of the suspected armed robbers.
“The action of the governor showed his commitment to fight crime in Lagos; apart from providing logistic to security in Lagos, he also face criminals head on.

“We on our side would ensure that the efforts of the government are not in vain, “ Manko added.
He said the arrest of commercial motorcyclists operating at night in prohibited areas in the state would be conducted within the ambit of the law.
