MAULAG (UNILAG) students’ protest causes traffic congestion

This Picture was taken on 3rd Mainland Bridge this morning
There was traffic congestion on third mainland bridge and some roads in the Yaba, Oyingbo and Ikorodu Road areas of Lagos State as thousands of students of the University of Lagos took to the streets to protest against the renaming of the institution by President Goodluck Jonathan, to Moshood Abiola University, Lagos (MAULAG)
According to reports, the students, who marched from the school premises in Akoka to the Fadeyi, Yaba and later to third mainland bridge areas of the state described the change of the name from University of Lagos to Moshood Abiola University of Lagos by the Federal Government as uncalled for as Abiola was neither a benefactor nor a patron of the school.
The protesters chanted songs and urged Jonathan to return the school’s former name.
One of the protesters, said although Abiola was a champion of democracy and worth immortalising, changing the name of the school was uncalled for as UNILAG was not just a name, but a social identity.
