A landlord and another tenant have landed in trouble in Lagos State,
Southwest Nigeria after they used machetes to settle scores. While the
landlord, Frank Uduzon inflicted injury on the face of his female
tenant, Chioma Obi, a tenant, Sochukwu Donatus, also used a cutlass in
inflicting injury on his landlady, Mrs Felicia Egwu. The incident
happened at both Ikotun and Meiran areas of Lagos.
Both victims suffered their fate over quit notices served by the landlords.
The
53-year old landlord, Frank Uduzon was arrested by the police and
arraigned before Ejigbo Magistrates’ Court, Lagos State, Southwest
Nigeria for injuring Chioma Obi on her face, which caused her to be
rushed to Igando general hospital.
The incident happened at 41 Toluwaloko street, off Alake Bus Stop, Ikotun, Lagos.
The woman suffered the fate after she was asked to pack out of her one room apartment by the landlord.
P.M.News gathered that Uduzon gave Chioma notice to pack out of his house due to
disagreement between two of them. At the expiration of the deadline,
the landlord asked to know why she refused to vacate his house.
P.M.News learnt that Chioma insisted that if he wanted her to leave, he should
follow due process.
P.M.News
gathered that it was during the
exchange of words between the duo that the landlord attacked her with a
cutlass, inflicting a deep cut on her face. He was arrested and charged
to court on a two-count charge of breach of the peace and of inflicting
harm. The prosecutor, Femi Adeleye told the court that the offence he
committed was contrary to sections 166 and 171 of the Criminal Code, Law
of Lagos State of Nigeria 2011.
He pleaded not guilty.
The
presiding Magistrate, Mrs M. B. Folami granted them bail in the sum of
N500,000 with two sureties in like sum. The matter was adjourned till 14
January 2013, while he was remanded in prison custody pending
fulfilment of his bail conditions.
Donatus was angry after his
landlord, Chief Okakadike Egwu served him notice to pack out of his
one-room apartment at 10 Messiah Street, Meiran, Lagos.
The landlord told
P.M.News that he asked him to leave his house because of PHCN bill which had
risen to N100,000, a sum of money he (Donatus) was instigating other
tenants not to pay.
On the day of the incident, Egwu said he was
outside discussing with his wife when Donatus descended on his wife with
a cutlass. He was thereafter arrested and detained by the police. When P.M.News visited the police station, it was gathered that he would be soon charged to court.
