A commercial bus driver, Morufu Adepoju, has been
brought before an Osogbo Magistrate’s Court for allegedly killing two
passengers, Iyabo Adewemimo, and Memunat Mohammed, through reckless
driving.
The charge sheet stated that Adepoju, who drove a bus
with number plate, XD 330 GNN, did not stop for a moving train passing
through an intersection in Osogbo.
His bus subsequently rammed the train with registration number 2225 and killed the victims in the process.
Adepoju was accused of committing the offence on November 27, 2011, at Old Garage, Osogbo.
When he was arraigned on Thursday, Adepoju’s lawyer,
Mr. Abimbola Ige, applied for his bail on the grounds that he was a
first time offender, adding that the suspect was ready to face
prosecution.
Police prosecutor, Sgt. Joshua Oladoye, did not oppose the bail application.
The Magistrate, Olusola Aluko, admitted the accused
to bail in the sum of N200,000 with two sureties, each of whom must show
proof of three-year tax payment.
