A
year old baby, her mother and a driver narrowly escaped death Wednesday [July
25] morning when their black Mitsubishi Montero Sports Utility Vehicle, SUV,
fell off Dopemu Bridge on Lagos-Abeokuta expressway.
PMNEWS learnt
through an eyewitness that the accident occurred as the driver of the SUV was
trying to manoeuvre his way to avoid a head on collision with a commuter bus
whose driver was driving against traffic.
Immediately
the SUV marked Lagos UB 787 AAA fell off the bridge, the Volkswagen faragon bus
sped off and escaped arrest by officials of Lagos State Traffic Management
Authority (LASTMA) who were around the Dopemu Roundabout.
But
the occupants of the SUV, the driver, Alex
Stephen, Mrs. Adeyinka and her
baby girl, one-year old Fadeyera
Adeyinka, escaped unhurt. They were taken to a private hospital in Idimu,
Lagos where they were treated for shock.
A
female food seller, who was right inside the Dopemu branch of the Taxi Drivers
Association Park, which is beside the bridge, escaped death, as the SUV crashed
into the park. Consequently,
taxi drivers at the park engaged the SUV driver in a fight after they asked him
to repair their damaged park. LASTMA officials who were at the scene of the
incident however resolved the matter.
The
SUV was later towed to LASTMA office at Agege, Pen Cinema area.
