Tragedy
struck at Setraco Road construction site in Ogboin-ama community,
Bomadi Local Government Area, Delta State, on Wednesday when a bulldozer
operator was stung to death by bees.
The victim, Mr. Samuel Onuabuchi, had been working with the company for about five years before his death.
The deceased, a father
of four, who hailed from Anambra State, was felling and evacuating trees
and debris at the site from Ogboin-ama to Akugbene community around 2pm
when the bees attacked him.
A source, who did not
want his name mentioned, said there was nothing the deceased’s
co-workers could do because of the large number of the rampaging bees.
The source said, “Though
he tried to run, the ferocity of the bees was so much that he fell down
and was pleading for help, but nobody could get close for fear of being
attacked too.
‘’The attack reportedly weakened him as he was already gasping for breath before we could go near him.’’
According to the Punch, it was learnt that by the time Onuabuchi’s co-workers got to him, he was already unconscious and could not speak.
Onuabuchi, 44, was immediately rushed to the General Hospital, Bomadi, where he reportedly gave up the ghost a few hours later.
When contacted, a top management employee of the company, who pleaded anonymity described the incident as ‘’shocking.’’
‘’Michael would be missed for his commitment and dedication to whatever job he was given,’’ he said.
