In a movie-like drama, a 73-year-old grandfather has, in the full
glare of policemen, stabbed a 27-year-old man to death in Benin, the Edo
State capital.
The man, simply identified as Uwadia, was said to have had a quarrel
with the deceased, Gabriel Amayahu Aigbosuria, following which he
invited some policemen to arrest him (Aigbosuria.) Unknown to the
policemen, the septuagenarian had a kitchen knife hidden on his body.
As they arrived the scene to arrest Aigbosuria, another round of
quarrel ensued between the duo. To the surprise of the policemen, who
attempted to mediate in the quarrel, Uwadia suddenly drew out a kitchen
knife and stabbed Aigbosuria who immediately slumped and died.
Consequently, Uwadia was taken to the Criminal Investigation Department
of the Edo State Police Command for further investigation.
When contacted, the acting Public Relations Officer of the state
police command, Ahwara Ejiroro (ASP), confirmed the incident, saying the
homicide section of the command was investigating the murder. He
assured that the police would get to the root of the matter. In another
development, gunmen have abducted the member representing Esan Central
Constituency in the Edo State House of Assembly, Victor Edoror, on
Sunday evening in Irrua.
Speaker of the House, Uyi Igbe who disclosed this yesterday in Benin,
said the lawmaker was kidnapped with his driver while on his way to
attend a meeting, adding that the House was informed of the incident by
the legislator’s wife. Igbe who said the kidnappers were yet to make
contact with the family of the lawmaker, announced suspension of the
Assembly’s sitting till further notice. When contacted, the state police
command spokesman, Awhara Ejiroro said the matter was under
investigation.
