RIYADH (AFP) – Saudi Arabia on Wednesday beheaded a man found guilty
of shooting dead a fellow Saudi during a dispute, the interior ministry
said.
Basam al-Yami was executed in the eastern city of Damam after he
“shot dead” Abdullah al-Dosari, said a ministry statement carried by
state news agency SPA.
The beheading brings to 11 the number of people executed in Saudi
Arabia since the beginning of the year, according to an AFP tally based
on official reports.
Amnesty International said the kingdom executed 79 people in 2011.
The ultra-conservative kingdom applies the death penalty for a wide
range of offences, including rape, murder, apostasy, armed robbery and
drug trafficking.
